POETICAL MEMORIES.
To be alone, to have no one to come home to is a daunting thought. Yet there are many people with such a problem. In some cases the situation is only temporary, in others it becomes a life long condition.
One correspondent, Julie McIver, moved to a new home and started a new job in an area away from her family. Feeling quite lonely, Julie thought she was doing the right thing when she purchased a ten week old Scots Collie, at least she would not be going home to an empty house when she returned from work. So for a short while, Jessie came into Julie's life to provide companionship and a barrier against loneliness.
Much to Julie's credit, she quickly realised that the length of time she had to spend at work was unfair to Jessie. Courageously, she gave up her only companion to a responsible family, caring more for Jessie's well being than her own.
One day Julie will enjoy the full meaning of having a long relationship with a dog but meanwhile, she remembers her first love with the following lines.
A GIFT IS LOST
Jessie was truly a gift from God
and a pleasure to behold.
Her coat was of the purest white
nd the shiniest of gold.
Often I had to leave her all alone
Yes, by herself in our little home.
She must have been so bored all day
because what she loved to do was play.
Jessie needed company in her heart
so it was decided that we must part.
Now she is in a loving home
where with a family she may roam.
To run an play in the fields of green,
where I know in my heart she and I
should have been.
